Real Stone And Brick Or Faux

Posted on June 7, 2018

Very often our great followers, clients and supporters ask us what the differences are between “real” stone or brick and the faux versions.

Often, they include in the question a phrase like “how does your product compare to real stone and brick prices?”.
The first thing we bring up is the difference between real and cast. Many of them are not aware of the difference between a stone that has been extracted from a quarry and a stone that has been cast with the use of concrete or even gypsum.

This is an essential distinction because real stone is not affordable but cast stone is priced based on the durability and look.

We have always had one goal in mind, provide a great product at a great price.

Our brick and stone panels always look realistic because we start by crating molds from real products. For example, in the image below you can see how we order real Chicago style reclaimed brick from demolished buildings.
The parts that come out of our molds reproduce every detail of the original material.

Many companies only resell products and some simply take some of ours and copy them, creating a second or third generation product. It shows!
We manufacture our products in-house, so we control the quality.

There are also other products used to compare to ours.

We want to remind our followers of how they look:

Once we make our initial educational speech our customers feel a lot more informed and comfortable in making a decision.

It is also true that many of them call us or come to our showroom with a smile in their faces and then say:” do you know how long we’ve been looking for a product like yours?? ”.

For those who need a realistic-looking brick or stone accent, at an affordable price point, we are here to answer any question.

How to Cut Faux Stone Properly

Posted on March 22, 2017

Making The Cut

Faux Stone is one of the most versatile products to hit the home improvement market. Cutting faux stone is simple and easy to do. Unlike stone cutting saws there is no need for expensive diamond blades, create messy dust or use water.

Imitation Stone Panel Cut

Imitation Stone Panel Cut

The polyurethane is durable yet light enough to allow for an easy cut with any saw. The table saw ensures the straightest and highest quality cut but any saw with a steady hand or a straight edge.

If you look in your garage or your toolbox and do not find one do not worry you will still be able to use any other kind of saw such as a jigsaw or circular saw in order to finish your project. If you do not have any equipment at all then go to the nearest home improvement store and simply rent one. This will still be cheaper than any other method in the long run; like using real stone or hiring a mason.

The main thing you should be focused on while doing your project is the proper preparation. Make sure the area is flat and devoid of bumps and other blemishes. Lay out the panels around the installation area to plan which panel to cut and where to create corners and returns.

Do not fret because this only takes minutes. Some problems that arise while cutting is when people have pipes or fixtures and they need to put stone around it, which highlights the beauty and ease of faux stone. You may cut anywhere to fit your needs.

After you receive a panel you simply face it where you want and draw out the line where you need to cut in order to fit the piping. If you run into any problems such as having too much or little of a panel the large assortment of finished edges will fit to your needs thereby giving you the customized look and professional finished result when you are done with your project.

Here is a great example of the finished product after the corners and correct cuttings have been made.

Here's the finished product

Unlike other products, like cast stone, you can easily miter-cut the panels and create seamless joint. You can see how natural products are difficult to miter-cut and create a clean look. The material is very forgiving and you can cover any gap with caulking and using out touch-up kit to paint over it for a joint that will be very difficult to see.

Once you have established the exact area you need to cover draw out where the panels will go. Then apply how many you will need according to your design. Triple check your measurements and then confirm with the actual panels where you want them to go. Make sure to do the cutting as you go.

Do not start cutting right away or else you will not be able to keep a continuous flow of pattern. An example of an important cut is the miter cut which is used on the corners of columns or end of walls.

The goal is to stack the panels properly cutting off the edges in order to place them in a pattern. The edge that you cut off is not waster, you can use it to start then next row onto the level right above it and interlocks them into place that is why it is important to do your cutting as you go along.

A great place to find a picture step guide is on anticoelements.com/installation.  So keep your saw and marker handy. Always, use your tape measure in order to ensure you are cutting off the right pieces. In order to ensure a professional look make sure edges are cut straight. Be safe and have fun with your next home transformation project.

How To Create Faux Stone Paneling Corners

Posted on October 2, 2013

Choosing faux stone panels to remodel the home is a great idea. Along the way you will find that it is the fastest and easiest part of any renovation process. While setting up the project area nine times out of ten there will be inside and outside corners. Stone panels were designed for convenience and flexibility so corners do not pose a problem because there are several methods to produce professional and realistic stone corners.

Outside Corner

Our Convenient Interlocking Outside Corners

Creating a flowing pattern around the corners can be done with three different methods. The first method is by using the interlocking corners. These corners come with interlocking teeth that can be joined to any other panel of the same color and texture.

The First Method

The interlocking corners are three feet high and provide a realistic outside corner piece to match your project. They can easily be cut and butted up to another corner if the need arises. They can easily be stacked on top of one another in order to reach the required height. The interlocking corners represent the fastest way to build your corners so they look great.

The Second Method

The second method consists of using the inside and outside corners. They are beautiful four foot high brackets made in a ninety degree angle that allows the other panels to butt up directly to the other panels to guarantee a professional finish.

Although, they may be the same color scheme they are not the same pattern as the interlocking corners. They come in a stacked stone design which creates a nice finish for the corner enabling customers to use inside and outside corners. The incorrect way to build corners is represented in the second picture.

Low Quality Product

The Third Method

The third method is the most time consuming and detailed. You must create a mitered corner by cutting a panel in half. Cut the panels with a 45 degree angle using a miter saw or table saw set on a 45 degree angle. After adhering the panel on the corner simply smooth over the edges. Then use textured caulk to seal in the edge. After using the textured caulk grab the touch up kit with the same color scheme and paint over the corner to match it with the pattern you are using. This process requires a lot more work and time which is why we always recommend the other two options first.

Using the recommended method always gives the best result and the quickest completion time. The goal of this product is to reduce the time spent on any project. Visualize your project finished and completed within a couple of hours instead of days.

It Is All In The Paint

Posted on September 25, 2013

The biggest factors in creating realistic faux stone and brick panels is the paint and mold used in the fabrication process. The paint and the texture work hand in hand to create a realistic stone look that blows people away when they realize it is not real stone.

When people hear the words imitation or fake stone they expect a tacky rendition of natural stone. That impression comes from low caliber products like the panels offered by Lowes and Home Depot. The difference is truly apparent when you put high quality panels next to the ones mass produced by the big box stores. Check out our panels up close by clicking here.

The strictest attention to detail is what makes our approach the best. For example, we carefully create a master panel which is then used as a template for the rubber mold. The mold is very expensive but we replace it often because it slowly deteriorates when panels are made.Replacing it often ensures the highest quality result making our products look and feel realistic. Unfortunately, many companies avoid replacing the mold often to save money which results in a fake representation.

Polyurethane Stone

Polyurethane Stone

The different paints being used have to be a high quality paint which is more expensive, therefore most companies avoid using them in order to save money. The paint used for our panels represent the highest quality in the industry partly because of the unique methods used to paint the panels. Our panels have six layers of high quality acrylic paints designed for outdoor use. It helps make the panels UV resistant which prevents the colors from bleaching.

Observe the difference in quality when looking at this fence. The grout lines are the same color and they don’t contrast the bigger stone pieces therefore it lost its realistic touch. The best panels are made with many layers of paint that also have a nice wash which can help bring out the texture even more. In addition, good imitation stone panels have grout colored lines that are painted in a way that contrast the larger stones creating a better representation of stone. Knowledge is power and knowing the difference between a quality product and a fast misrepresentation is key in getting a great realistic look.

Faux Stone Bar And Grill

Would you like this conversation to happen to you?

“Hey honey when did you buy that great looking bar and grill set up outside that wasn’t there yesterday?”

I didn’t buy I made it all by myself.”

This project was the husband’s way of saying we will spend more time together and have fun eating together. The husband in this case was more than happy to show off his handyman skills and the wife was happy to have a beautiful functional piece of furniture that matches the tones and colors she used to design the patio. All around this project helped make a happy couple with a new simple and fun addition to their backyard.

What was the husband’s secret trick? He used imitation stone panels and corners in order to fabricate the bar and grill. These panels can be used around a heat six as long as it is five to six inches away from the actual heat source. Essentially, what the husband did in this case was use a frame of wood and bars in order to construct a small frame to accommodate the grill.

Since the faux stone panels are easy to cut and glue or screw onto any flat surface the husband was able to finish this project before his wife got home from doing her hair.

The Perfect Do It Yourself Project

In this case the husband used plywood and some 2x4 pieces of wood in order to create the skeleton for the bar and grill. After that he simply glued on the panels and screwed them in so they were secured onto the brackets. Then he used a small touch up kit and was done. The grill was strategically placed so the heat from the grill would not affect the panels. People even use faux stone panels around fireplaces. This picture shows the high quality look you can get by adding a few panels around your house. Check out the link to view more great examples of stone veneer:

Most of the people who own a home would love to fix it up but don’t know how they could do it. Even small projects like these can make a world of a difference which is why faux stone or brick products are great because it allows regular people to do amazing projects in the blink of an eye.

Modern Faux Stone Fireplace

Over the years fireplaces have been an iconic symbol for each generation. Although, they have changed over the years and each time they always reflect the architectural philosophy of that generation. Everybody who has had a fireplace in their home remembers the cozy feeling it inspired. It brings a warmth to the home besides the heat the fire brings. Everyone sits around the fireplace talks and laughs and shares Christmas presents or plays with their children. The fireplaces now have changed considerably with different technology.

New technology has changed the look and feel of fireplaces by making them safer and cleaner. With a whole new variety of new style of fireplaces a new contemporary design comes into play. Now many designers and homeowners are changing their fireplace by using faux stone products.

Designers are taking advantage of the benefits offered by faux stone products. The modern fireplace has been revolutionized. The trend is redefining the way the American fireplace looks by creating the utilitarian look with a contemporary edge. Faux stone products can easily go around the fireplace and even be used to create a mantle.

The versatility of this product is best explained when you examine the various methods it can be applied. In the fireplace setting it can wrap around the corners and go right up to the ceiling with any problem. But the one of the greatest things about this product is you can add fixtures such as lights through the panels. With stone you must make a sacrifice because you can’t drill straight through stone and put lamps or mirrors on it. With the faux stone panels people can easily drill through and anchor whatever they want into the panels.

Fireplaces are not complete without some form of mantle. Where else would everybody hang the stockings and put up albums of their family. The mantle plays a large role in the room due to the albums and ornaments that adorn it. When people pass by the mantle usually a long parade of smiles and hugs dot the pictures above the fireplace. This was very special to me as a child because every Christmas we always added our new albums to the mantle highlighting the fun we had that year. These important pieces of our lives should be revered. Remodeling the traditional fireplace with a modern touch is made easy when using faux stone because you can take that boring blank space around the fireplace and create a masterpiece of design in under a day.

The modern fireplace is still evolving. Many homeowners have adopted the faux stone approach because it is a cheaper way to remodel the fireplace. Most people have been purchasing the newer versions of fireplace which complements the design theory of the faux stone method because after the easy installation most people love the great look it creates. Save time and money while making your house into a cozy home. Escape from the trouble of the world and warm up by your new fireplace enjoy the great textures and colors brought on by the faux stone.
