How to Cut Faux Stone Properly

Posted on March 22, 2017

Making The Cut

Faux Stone is one of the most versatile products to hit the home improvement market. Cutting faux stone is simple and easy to do. Unlike stone cutting saws there is no need for expensive diamond blades, create messy dust or use water.

Imitation Stone Panel Cut

The polyurethane is durable yet light enough to allow for an easy cut with any saw. The table saw ensures the straightest and highest quality cut but any saw with a steady hand or a straight edge.

If you look in your garage or your toolbox and do not find one do not worry you will still be able to use any other kind of saw such as a jigsaw or circular saw in order to finish your project. If you do not have any equipment at all then go to the nearest home improvement store and simply rent one. This will still be cheaper than any other method in the long run; like using real stone or hiring a mason.

The main thing you should be focused on while doing your project is the proper preparation. Make sure the area is flat and devoid of bumps and other blemishes. Lay out the panels around the installation area to plan which panel to cut and where to create corners and returns.

Do not fret because this only takes minutes. Some problems that arise while cutting is when people have pipes or fixtures and they need to put stone around it, which highlights the beauty and ease of faux stone. You may cut anywhere to fit your needs.

After you receive a panel you simply face it where you want and draw out the line where you need to cut in order to fit the piping. If you run into any problems such as having too much or little of a panel the large assortment of finished edges will fit to your needs thereby giving you the customized look and professional finished result when you are done with your project.

Here is a great example of the finished product after the corners and correct cuttings have been made.

Here's the finished product

Unlike other products, like cast stone, you can easily miter-cut the panels and create seamless joint. You can see how natural products are difficult to miter-cut and create a clean look. The material is very forgiving and you can cover any gap with caulking and using out touch-up kit to paint over it for a joint that will be very difficult to see.

Once you have established the exact area you need to cover draw out where the panels will go. Then apply how many you will need according to your design. Triple check your measurements and then confirm with the actual panels where you want them to go. Make sure to do the cutting as you go.

Do not start cutting right away or else you will not be able to keep a continuous flow of pattern. An example of an important cut is the miter cut which is used on the corners of columns or end of walls.

The goal is to stack the panels properly cutting off the edges in order to place them in a pattern. The edge that you cut off is not waster, you can use it to start then next row onto the level right above it and interlocks them into place that is why it is important to do your cutting as you go along.

A great place to find a picture step guide is on anticoelements.com/installation.  So keep your saw and marker handy. Always, use your tape measure in order to ensure you are cutting off the right pieces. In order to ensure a professional look make sure edges are cut straight. Be safe and have fun with your next home transformation project.

Designing Without Boundaries.

Posted on February 13, 2014

“Freedom is within,” Frank Lloyd Wright spoke these undying words of wisdom when he was being interviewed about one of his latest architectural designs. These words ring true for everybody, but in this case he was applying this paradigm to architectural design. Designing anything from buildings to interior rooms can be one of the most enlightening and difficult experiences anyone can have. It enables people to look within themselves. Exploring that freedom is great when you have the right tools and products that can be just as flexible as your imagination.

Designing without boundaries simply means letting go of previous misconceptions in order to embrace new ideas in the design industry. Many people regard new construction products and methods with skepticism. When people abandon their skepticism of new products then they will be able enjoy the benefits of polyurethane architectural elements.

The point of design is to enable people to combine their lifestyle and function into one seamless philosophy. Freedom of expression shouldn’t be constrained by financial parameters. Everybody should have the ability to drastically renovate their home or business without going over budget.

Set designers and movie producers have found new ways to make sets look quite realistic. Not only do they seek to make the sets as real as possible, but they also desire easy installation. Imitation stone or brick helps set designers save time and money with their projects. Building a set is a complicated and hard process but it can't take a long time because the projects usually have a short deadline.

Making a movie means creating a realistic yet magical interpretation of the artist’s story. Movies help people escape from reality or get in touch with parts of life that people haven’t experienced before.

Set designers are some of the most creative people in any industry because they have to improvise and innovate with almost every project they work on. The product that helps make their life a lot easier is the Antico Elements' faux stone panels used in some TV show sets and movies.

Polyurethane comes in a variety of shapes and sizes enabling set designers to create houses that look like brick homes in hours without having to use real brick. Different architectural elements and installation tips can be found here for more information- www.anticoelements.com

If crews are going to shoot a scene in a house that requires the traditional look of brick set designers can save time because the brick panels just need to be screwed or glued onto studs or plywood to create that realistic look.

This equals hours of work saved for the set designers. Before polyurethane products set designers would have to paint fake bricks on houses or find another way of creating a stone or brick style on a set that looks just like the real thing.

Brick homes like the one in Home Alone could have been made at a quarter of the price that it cost for actually renting and filming in one for a movie because homeowners usually charge an exorbitant rate for renting the house for a movie due to the inconvenience.

Installing Faux Stone Panels Made Easy

Installing Faux Stone

Faux Stone is easy and fun to work with, but there are a couple of tools and tips that will make the project easier. The first thing to remember is to have all the tools you will need. Below you will find a list of the simple tools that will help you finish your project.

• Measuring tape and pencil
• Hand saw (a table saw, miter saw or jig saw can be used if available.)
• Nails or screws (exterior grade if used outdoor and masonry screws for brick, concrete etc.)
• Nail set
• Hammer (or screw driver/drill if using screws)
• Level
• Framing square
• Chalk line
• Construction adhesive, E.G: Liquid Nails, PL, etc.
• Safety Glasses

After gathering all your tools take your time to temporarily place the panels around the area which you plan to cover. This will give you a good idea of which ones you have to cut. Preparation is essential to ensuring short project time as well as a professional look.

The second tip to remember is to start with the corners first. If you are using our corners temporarily place them in using nails and no adhesive. This will give you a picture of what the room will look like. Make sure that everything is perpendicular to the floor. Remember to avoid using too much adhesive for the corners.

Last but not least is the third recommendation. Place the panels from left to right. This is the correct way to place them. It isn’t necessary to cut the panels before you place them. You will cut them as you go along which guarantees you make the right cut to the right panels. If you cut the panels before actually putting them in place then the order of the panels can be messed up and you won’t get a professional look. As you see below they are quite light and easy to place.

How To Create Faux Stone Paneling Corners

Posted on October 2, 2013

Choosing faux stone panels to remodel the home is a great idea. Along the way you will find that it is the fastest and easiest part of any renovation process. While setting up the project area nine times out of ten there will be inside and outside corners. Stone panels were designed for convenience and flexibility so corners do not pose a problem because there are several methods to produce professional and realistic stone corners.

Outside Corner

Our Convenient Interlocking Outside Corners

Creating a flowing pattern around the corners can be done with three different methods. The first method is by using the interlocking corners. These corners come with interlocking teeth that can be joined to any other panel of the same color and texture.

The First Method

The interlocking corners are three feet high and provide a realistic outside corner piece to match your project. They can easily be cut and butted up to another corner if the need arises. They can easily be stacked on top of one another in order to reach the required height. The interlocking corners represent the fastest way to build your corners so they look great.

The Second Method

The second method consists of using the inside and outside corners. They are beautiful four foot high brackets made in a ninety degree angle that allows the other panels to butt up directly to the other panels to guarantee a professional finish.

Although, they may be the same color scheme they are not the same pattern as the interlocking corners. They come in a stacked stone design which creates a nice finish for the corner enabling customers to use inside and outside corners. The incorrect way to build corners is represented in the second picture.

Low Quality Product

The Third Method

The third method is the most time consuming and detailed. You must create a mitered corner by cutting a panel in half. Cut the panels with a 45 degree angle using a miter saw or table saw set on a 45 degree angle. After adhering the panel on the corner simply smooth over the edges. Then use textured caulk to seal in the edge. After using the textured caulk grab the touch up kit with the same color scheme and paint over the corner to match it with the pattern you are using. This process requires a lot more work and time which is why we always recommend the other two options first.

Using the recommended method always gives the best result and the quickest completion time. The goal of this product is to reduce the time spent on any project. Visualize your project finished and completed within a couple of hours instead of days.

What Makes A Good Design Trend?

Great trends can be summed up into two different factors. The two factors are style and functionality. These two qualities are usually the spark for a great design trend that takes the market by storm. Polyurethane panels embrace both of these factors to the fullest extent.

Functionality and elegance are some of the most important things in design. Adding special flare and unique characteristics to each project makes a big difference when creating projects to use for your portfolio. Customers love it when their own house is used as a showcase.

When one fast food franchise decides to give a facelift to their stores the others all fall in suit in order to stay in the game. For example, if you saw a McDonalds and it looked old and shabby with paint from the eighties and across the street there was a freshly renovated Burger King, most people will go to the Burger King simply because it looks more pleasing and clean. Stone or brick veneer panels can increase the efficiency of these renovation projects by enabling them to be completed faster and without having to pay masons.

The faster a fast food restaurant can reopen after renovations the faster it can start making money. This means completion is reached without a headache or a hassle. The owners can relax because they won’t have to open a half ready restaurant that still has work being done in it. That way they do not have to prematurely open their doors like some stores do in order to keep money coming in.

Cast stone is hard to make look right.

Cast stone is hard to make look right.

Using the two pictures of the burger king under renovation and the finished McDonalds which one do you think will attract more customers? Throughout the years I have seen more than one fast food restaurant open while there is still construction going on outside or inside the restaurant. This hurts sales and the professionalism that the fast food franchise is trying to impress upon their customers. Click here to see how easy it is to install.

Altogether, the franchise that realizes the many advantages of using faux stone panels first is the one who will reap in the most profits.  Business is a race and whoever gets the advantage is the one who wins. Therefore faux stone is the advantage when it comes to renovating any business in order to attract more customers quickly.

Modern Faux Stone Fireplace

Posted on September 13, 2013

Over the years fireplaces have been an iconic symbol for each generation. Although, they have changed over the years and each time they always reflect the architectural philosophy of that generation. Everybody who has had a fireplace in their home remembers the cozy feeling it inspired. It brings a warmth to the home besides the heat the fire brings. Everyone sits around the fireplace talks and laughs and shares Christmas presents or plays with their children. The fireplaces now have changed considerably with different technology.

New technology has changed the look and feel of fireplaces by making them safer and cleaner. With a whole new variety of new style of fireplaces a new contemporary design comes into play. Now many designers and homeowners are changing their fireplace by using faux stone products.

Designers are taking advantage of the benefits offered by faux stone products. The modern fireplace has been revolutionized. The trend is redefining the way the American fireplace looks by creating the utilitarian look with a contemporary edge. Faux stone products can easily go around the fireplace and even be used to create a mantle.

The versatility of this product is best explained when you examine the various methods it can be applied. In the fireplace setting it can wrap around the corners and go right up to the ceiling with any problem. But the one of the greatest things about this product is you can add fixtures such as lights through the panels. With stone you must make a sacrifice because you can’t drill straight through stone and put lamps or mirrors on it. With the faux stone panels people can easily drill through and anchor whatever they want into the panels.

Fireplaces are not complete without some form of mantle. Where else would everybody hang the stockings and put up albums of their family. The mantle plays a large role in the room due to the albums and ornaments that adorn it. When people pass by the mantle usually a long parade of smiles and hugs dot the pictures above the fireplace. This was very special to me as a child because every Christmas we always added our new albums to the mantle highlighting the fun we had that year. These important pieces of our lives should be revered. Remodeling the traditional fireplace with a modern touch is made easy when using faux stone because you can take that boring blank space around the fireplace and create a masterpiece of design in under a day.

The modern fireplace is still evolving. Many homeowners have adopted the faux stone approach because it is a cheaper way to remodel the fireplace. Most people have been purchasing the newer versions of fireplace which complements the design theory of the faux stone method because after the easy installation most people love the great look it creates. Save time and money while making your house into a cozy home. Escape from the trouble of the world and warm up by your new fireplace enjoy the great textures and colors brought on by the faux stone.
